School nurses

School nurses are an expert team of registered nurses who work across health and education providing a link between school, home and the community to benefit the health and wellbeing of children and young people. The school nursing team works with all secondary school age pupils, and sometimes their families and can provide confidential advice and support on a range of issues such as:

  • General health needs

  • Sleep

  • Eating problems

  • Alcohol / drugs / smoking

  • Emotional and mental health issues

  • Sexual health and relationships

  • Parenting advice

  • Behaviour

  • Development

You can access your school nurse through the weekly drop in at school, via email or by telephone.
Your school nurse can also make referrals and signpost to other services, and you can access your school nurse through your young person’s school, by phone or email. We can carry out home visits upon request.
